Exchange Programs & Costs

Student's attending one of Truman State University's exchange partner universities may apply to study at Truman for one or two semesters as a study abroad experience. Truman has direct relationships with several universities abroad, but also participates in the worldwide ISEP exchange network.

Truman has direct exchange agreements with universities around the world. Students from these partners should contact the study abroad office at their home university to learn more about how exchange works at Truman and begin their application.

Application Requirements

Costs for Direct Exchange Students

Direct Exchange Students pay tuition and fees to their home institution and are required to purchase room & board directly from Truman State University. They should keep the following considerations in mind when planning a budget for their time at Truman State:

  • Room & board costs at Truman for 2021-2022 are $4,764 per semester in a 2-person shared room in Missouri Hall with 15 meals per week. Students may select various housing and meal-plan options with different prices as described here:
  • Direct exchange students will also be charged for Truman’s designated health insurance policy. The cost of this policy for 2021-2022 is $779 per semester.
  • For the first semester, all incoming students are assessed fees for orientation and any TB testing or vaccinations required by student health. These one-time expenses are currently estimated at $1,000.
  • Students must purchase their own books and supplies and should prepare to spend $200-$500 per semester.
  • Students will be responsible for any additional charges, fines, or fees placed on their account voluntarily or due to their own fault during their time at Truman.
  • Personal expenses and transportation costs vary from student to student but need to be considered in personal budget planning.

ISEP Exchange Students

Truman participates in ISEP's worldwide exchange network. Students from institutions that participate in ISEP must apply directly through ISEP and should list Truman State University as their preference.

Costs for ISEP Exchange Students

ISEP Exchange Students pay tuition, fees, and room & board expenses to their home institution and application fees and insurance costs to ISEP. Instructions for signing up for room & board options at Truman State will be shared with ISEP students once they have accepted their placement at Truman State University. Beyond these expenses, ISEP Exchange Students should keep the following considerations in mind when planning a budget for their time at Truman State:

  • For the first semester, incoming students will be required to complete a TB test and may have to receive additional vaccinations. These expenses may be partially or wholly covered by the student’s insurance but may run anywhere from $0-$340.
  • ISEP students must make a refundable housing deposit of $150 when registering for housing.
  • Students must purchase their own books and supplies and should prepare to spend between $200 and $500 per semester.
  • Students will be responsible for any additional charges, fines, or fees placed on their account voluntarily or due to their own fault during their time at Truman.
  • Personal expenses and transportation costs vary from student to student but need to be considered in personal budget planning.

Not Affiliated with an Exchange Partner? Come as a Visiting Student!
